After being scouted on a wintry night in 2017, I debuted my career with an international brand campaign and a runway booking for a large Milanese fashion house – all while studying towards my Advanced Levels exams. Upon completion, I carried out semi-regular eCommerce and office work while figuring out which direction I wished to head in. When I decided on creative marketing, I took an internship at a global creative agency whilst continuing to featuring in brands and running campaigns. Most recently, I featured in a British GQ editorial.
It should be noted that the sporadic nature of the fashion industry means it can be quite difficult at times to create a schedule/structure.
AM
Wake up. Check messages (emails, IG, Whatsapp, iMessage). Respond to what needs to be responded to. Check and update my to-do list (if necessary). See how far set/casting is (assessing if I can get some more sleep). Get up. Shower and beauty rituals. Head over to the set. Spend the day shooting.
PM
Exercise. Do some tasks on my to-do-list. Do some laundry. Tidy my room. Do some more things on my to-do-list (that way I can sleep for longer the next day and give myself some leeway if unexpected callouts happen). Plan towards goals, both short-term and long-term. Read. Sleep.
- Always have something else you are working towards (a degree, a job role, a goal, etc). While it is a fun occupation, it can be a downer when you are only valued on your looks.
- Always have a secondary source of income. The fashion industry can be quite sporadic and so can income. A secondary source of income provides a level of security which is essential, especially in times of crisis.
- Use your modelling career to propel you in other areas of life. Modelling provides you with unparalleled access to networks across a range of industries – use it to further your goals and ambitions.
